Peru - Mr Luis Miguel Cabello, Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Peru

The most trusted source in travel is back to acknowledge and honour the best in travel and tourism this year. Now in its fifth year, the Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2016 aims to present not only the most coveted, but also the most relevant awards in the Indian travel industry. It is a people’s choice awards, where readers vote for their favourite travel experiences based on nominations short-listed by a panel of travel experts and professionals.

The expert panel this year comprises Vardhan Kondvikar – Editor, Lonely Planet Magazine India; Manu Kashyap – Director, Windmill Holidays; Sunila Patil – Co-Founder & Director, Veena World; Madhavan Menon – Chairman & Managing Director, Thomas Cook India; Sucheta Potnis & Hans Tuinman – Founders, http://www.travellers-palm.com; Deep Kalra – Founder & CEO, MakeMyTrip, and Vishal Suri – Managing Director, Kuoni India.

Vardhan Kondvikar, Editor of Lonely Planet Magazine India, said, “The Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards have always centred around the travellers themselves, and are voted upon by the experiential, curious, exploratory readers of the magazine. In 2016, they have again voted for their favourite destinations and experiences, which range from destinations as well-known as Goa and Switzerland to the still-unknown, like Nagaland and Peru. The notable thing about these is that it is travellers effectively encouraging other travellers to go forth and try things they wouldn’t have otherwise, a cornerstone of the Lonely Planet philosophy.”

Deepak Lamba, CEO, Worldwide Media Ltd, said, “Lonely Planet Magazine India is one of the most sought-after brands in travel and tourism. Its legacy continues to be relevant because of its robust content, which is a fantastic mix of destinations presented with a fresh perspective and with a practical approach to travel. Moreover, the content of Lonely Planet Magazine India goes beyond print and engages the consumer with superlative events, IPs and associations with relevant partners within the industry. This combination makes the Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards the most credible and well-researched awards of the Indian travel industry.”

The ceremony this year was hosted by India’s most sought-after master of ceremonies, the TV/Radio host and voice-over professional Siddharth Kannan, and the event was held at the St Regis, Mumbai, on Monday, May 9, 2016, 7pm onwards.
