Ireland Calls On The World To ‘Gogreen4patricksday’ This 17th March!

Tourism Ireland launches film celebrating the greenest day of the year and inviting the world to visit the Emerald Isle

As the world gears up to go green on the 17th March, Tourism Ireland is calling on every nation to join in the celebrations and #GoGreen4PatricksDay by watching and sharing a video created to reveal that although landmarks, iconic sites, statues, buildings and even people go green for the day, the island of Ireland is green 365-days of the year.

On St. Patrick’s Day, hundreds of iconic landmarks from mainland Europe and America to Australia via Africa, the Middle East and Asia will be glowing emerald green as millions of people across the globe join in the celebrations. Yet every day in Ireland, from dawn to dusk, the country is bathed in a green glow from the dewy grass to green Irish eyes.

The 60-second film includes stunning footage of the island of Ireland, interwoven with iconic images of Tourism Ireland’s annual Global Greenings that take place every year in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Beautiful footage captured across the island of Ireland including the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, Inch Abbey, the Cliffs of Moher and Newgrange are set against shots of the epic global greenings of locations from the Great Wall of China to the Sydney Opera House and the London Eye.

Amanda Burns, General Manager – Middle East & Asia, Tourism Ireland said: ‘Our Global Greenings are being brought to life with the creation of a ‘GoGreen4PatricksDay’ video. The success of our Global Greening initiative is due in no small part to the great work that has been carried out by Irish people across the world.

“Many people around the world feel a deep spiritual connection to Ireland and more than 70 million people claim links to the island of Ireland so St. Patricks Day is the perfect moment to reconnect them with their heritage.  It’s great to see the Global Greenings going from strength to strength. In India, we have had the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the Gateway of India going green in honour of St Patrick’s Day.”

Tourism Ireland is putting a call out to anyone with a love of or interest in Ireland to #GoGreen4PatricksDay by watching and sharing – and is extending an invite to come and experience all Ireland has to offer.
