Akriti Kakar, the young dynamic voice of Bollywood, has already created a buzz in the music industry and is the perfect voice for the new generation.
She started her musical journey at the tender age of 5, by learning Hindustani Classical music from her mother and Guru (Late) Sh. Byomkesh Banerjee. Akriti was a part of ‘Little Stars’ for Anandji’s (Kalyanji Anandji fame) troupe. She won the TVS Sa Re Ga Ma National Talent Hunt and also the most prestigious award from Sangam Kala Group, New Delhi.
Akriti’s first Bollywood number was “Cham Se Vo Aa Jaye” for the movie Dus. Since then there was no looking back for her; she has lent her voice to popular songs in films such as Shakalaka Boom Boom, Namastey London, Apne, Welcome, Kismat Konnection, Golmaal Returns, Billu, Aa Dekhen Zara, We are Family and Tere Bin Laden among others.
She was also nominated as the ‘New Musical Sensation’ on Stardust Awards for the title track of the film Johnny Gaddaar, composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
Akriti has always been open to various musical avenues. She has sung many songs in other regional languages including Bengali. She is a revered name in the Bangla film industry so much so that her twitter timeline is flooded with Bengali fans asking about her next releases. She has given chartbusters for films such as Paglu, Paglu 2 and Doshomi.
Akriti has also lent her voice to the Hindi version of High School Musical 2. In 2011, she collaborated with Shankar Mahadevan for MTV Coke Studio. She also released her solo album ‘Akriti’, which won the GIMA Award for the Best Non Film Popular Album of the Year.
Internationally, she was also the voice and face of Barbie in the video track called “Hope has Wings” for the film Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus. This was the first ever association between Mattel and Sa Re Ga Ma HMV. Akriti is awaiting more international collaborations to highlight her independent music style.
Recently, she composed and sung the anthem for Cervical Cancer called ‘Angel’ for Times Group. Along with this, she also released her first devotional project called ‘Ganaraj Adhiraj’. The album comprises of unconventional bhajans. Her hymn ‘Bolo Na Bolo’ has garnered a positive response from the audience as well as the music industry.
Currently, Akriti is hosting the revamped version of the popular music show ‘Antakshari’. The show will be aired across 10 countries on Zee TV International.
